Story and photos by Jeff Oatley. Feature photo by Derek Crowe. I first met Revelate Designs founder Eric Parsons in British Columbia, on the side of the Al-Can Highway, in 2003, I think. I met him a second time right before racing the 2005 Iditarod Trail Invitational (ITI). Although only 13 years ago, winter cycling … [ Read More ]

Steve “Doom” Fassbinder’s Solo Bike Mission Through Asia “Dirt hut on Wakhan Afgan border: Had another bad sick night, shit the bed. Spent a long nice morning cleaning up doing laundry and napping. It’s worth mentioning that I received some very bad news over my InReach device. Just days earlier, extremists killed four foreign riders … [ Read More ]

“Constellations rise above the horizon and arc overhead, and by the witching hours, the world becomes silent aside from the crunch of my tires on loose rock. By morning, that mountain range will be just a distant feature behind me, and I’ll find myself in some grassy valley countless transitions later, and as I pedal, … [ Read More ]

Q&A With Revelate Designer, Product Tester, and Enduro Racer Dusty Eroh “Do you know what Revelate Designs (Epic Designs) does?” Eric Parsons asks Dusty Eroh during his first job interview. “No.” Dusty replies. “How about bikepacking… do you ride bikes?” “Umm, I really like to climb and love alpine climbing! It’s the best!” “Do you … [ Read More ]

Nearly two decades ago, Surly hired Dave Gray to design bicycle frames and components and to take the company to the next level. A long-time “bikepacker” (what he called “bike-camping” at the time) and the brainchild behind the Surly Pugsley, Gray has a unique insight into the history of bikpacking and the parallel development of … [ Read More ]

On June 20, 2018, Lael Wilcox won second place in Switzerland’s Navad 1000 bikepacking race (1010 KM // 627 miles), becoming the second female to finish the race and beating the previous overall course record by more than 18 hours.

After following the dots on the leader board for the last couple weeks, I was a little bit stunned to check back the night before the race and see that Lael Wilcox had taken the lead. I double and triple checked actually. It was close to the finish line and I wanted to spread the … [ Read More ]

I met up with Lael Wilcox last month in Anchorage, days before she started her trek to Astoria, Oregon for the start of the Trans Am. With the race just two days away, I feel confident that I’m not giving away any of her secrets. Whether that was by means of my own procrastination or that … [ Read More ]

Flying into Puerto Montt, Chile on December 25th was a pretty remarkable experience. Suddenly, as the plane coasted over farmland toward the head of the Gulfo de Ancud/Corcovado, Volcan Osorno filled the frame of my tiny airplane window. It was magnificent. Soft green fields rolled up to the flanks of the volcano. From sea level … [ Read More ]

Written by Lael Wilcox, photos by Nicholas Carman Riding out of Bahia Los Angeles, under the sun with a tailwind, Nick and I get in a fight because I want to run and he wants to keep moving forward. Fueled by temper, we ride fast through afternoon until we reach a crusty old car tire … [ Read More ]

Story and Photographs by Revelate Ambassador Dan Bailey. Vampires and castles. That’s all I really knew about Romania before deciding to go bike touring over there for a month. Oh yea, and that the country was ruled by a brutal communist dictator for over 20 years, who was executed by firing squad on Christmas Day in 1989 … [ Read More ]

Right now, somewhere along a lonely stretch of the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route, Lael Wilcox is back at it – quietly pedaling to find the best version of herself. If her blisteringly fast progress continues, this may just be the best there is. Calling Anchorage, Alaska home, Lael already holds the fastest women’s time … [ Read More ]
